Though it emerged almost 800 years ago, this quiet poetic form has seized the hearts, pens, and imaginations of poets and readers ever since. What's so wonderful about it? In this workshop, we will read, write, and talk about sonnets in order to explore the form’s popularity and potential.
We will look at poems by such European masters as Shakespeare, Hopkins, and Elizabeth Barrett Browning, and also at 20th-21st century New World rock stars like Edna St. Vincent Millay, Gwendolyn Brooks, Pablo Neruda, and Marilyn Nelson.
We'll learn to appreciate this gorgeous little form, and we'll also add crack tools to our poetic toolboxes.
