In this four-week workshop, we will discover the threshold between narrative and lyric, fiction and poetry, flash and prose poems, inhabiting the borderlands between these realms of story to craft poetry that startles, reveals, and punches the gut.

Following the lead of Natasha Trethewey, Denise Duhamel, Diane Seuss, Ada Limón, Gerald Stern, and other masters of narrative poetry, we will learn to distill a memoir to the size of a sonnet, the hero’s journey to a sestina, a novel to a single page of verse.
